Little Red Thinning for Wildlife Habitat Improvement

Gila National Forest Sierra, New Mexico Black Range Ranger District

In approximately 5,000 acres, cut 5 acre openings in dense pinyon-juniper woodland to stimulate grass, forb and browse growth. Travel corridors approximately 50-100 foot wide will be left uncut. The area will be accessible for fuelwood gathering.

Location

North of Winston, NM where highway 59 enters the forest boundary. Project will occur on both sides of the highway.
