Bear Gap Stand Improvement Project

Daniel Boone National Forest Jackson; Laurel; Lee; Owsley; Rockcastle; Whitley, Kentucky London Ranger District

This project would improve approximately 2,900 acres of young (less than 30 years of age) sapling/pole-sized mixed hardwood stands by thinning the current overcrowded conditions. This would promote healthier stands and improve wildlife habitat.

Location

Approximately 75% of the stands to be treated are in the Bear Gap area of Jackson County and northeast to Owsley Co. Remaining stands are in Laurel, Rockcastle, Whitley, and Lee Counties.
