Bighorn National Forest — Project Detail

The Powder River Ranger District proposes to develop a Climbing Management Plan for Tensleep Canyon. The Climbing Management Plan will outline where future route development may or may not occur and identify new system trails and parking areas.

Rerouting an existing fence to support a more natural pasture rotation, easier maintenance, and constructing the feature as a wildlife friendly option. Removing the existing fence from a challenging, steep area that allows for easier wildlife passage.

Proposing to reforest approximately 4,000 acres within the Elk Fire perimeter by planting native conifer seedlings. No site prep, herbicide application or new road construction is proposed. Species selection and planting densities would be designed to promote resilience to future disturbance.

The Forest Service, in conjunction with the BLM, is proposing to conduct prescribed fire activities on portions of the western slope of the Bighorn National Forest north of US Highway 14A.

The proposed action would include use, development, and expansion of the Copper Creek Gravel Pit to provide aggregate surfacing for the road work and some stockpiled aggregate for future projects.

Authorizing Meadowlark Ski Lodge to install concrete block lining the counterweight pit to stabilize the current erosion occurring and prevent future erosion ensuring proper counterweight clearance and safe lift operations in the years to come.

Improving or constructing new trailheads and/or parking at: Sibley Ski Parking, Edelman Trailhead, Coffeen Park Trailhead, Elgin Park Trailhead, Shutts Flats Trailhead, Adelaide Trailhead, Porcupine Falls Trailhead, Cutler Nordic Parking Lot.
