Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area — Project Detail

The purpose of this project is to improve forest health, ecosystem resilience, and wildlife habitat while also reducing the risk of impacts from wildfire to communities adjacent to NFS lands. Proposed management activities include small diameter thinning, select tree release, and prescribed fire.

Repaving the parking area at Herman Creek Trailhead, reorient parking spaces, move and replace vault toilet, install automated fee machine, bike racks, other trailhead amenities.

Repair, modification, and additions to the historic Multnomah Falls Lodge, and associated site improvements including directional boring under Multnomah Creek to provide upgraded electrical facilities.

The proposed Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) Sign Project proposes to replace existing signs and install new, thematic and interpretive signs throughout the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.

Replacement of the existing restroom and reduce deferred maintenance at the site. Along with the restroom replacement project will replace the existing kiosk, install a fee tube for collection of recreation use fees, and improve accessibility.
