Gila National Forest Gravel Pits Project

Gila National Forest Catron; Grant; Hidalgo; Sierra; Socorro, New Mexico Gila National Forest

Develop and operate rock pits to provide common variety rock material, including, cinders, gravel, and crushed and screened aggregate materials for surfacing of unpaved roads and recreation sites for maintenance purposes. Rock sources would be established over approximately 20 years.

Location

Includes 21 new and 26 existing rock source pits for development across the GNF, including six sites totaling 65.05 acres on the Black Range District, 18 sites totaling 223.78 acres on the Quemado District, 15 sites totaling 196.43 acres on the Reserve District, four sites totaling 39.45 acres on the Glenwood District, and four sites totaling 44.31 acres on the Silver City District. Additionally, one 4.37-acre site on the Wilderness District is identified for reclamation.
