Salmon-Challis Conifer Encroachment

Salmon-Challis National Forest Butte; Custer; Lemhi, Idaho Salmon-Challis National Forest All Units

Project would reduce conifers encroaching into sage steppe greater sage-grouse habitat. The project would authorize approx. 199,500 acres and treat roughly 3,000 acres per year. Trees would be hand felled, lopped, and/or piled for burning.

Location

The project area is located on the North Fork, Salmon-Cobalt, Leadore, Challis-Yankee Fork, and Lost River Ranger Districts. Twenty two Idaho Roadless Areas are in the project area.
