2023 Barrens Habitat Improvement

Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest Bayfield, Wisconsin Washburn Ranger District

Proposal is to improve barrens habitat at 4 locations. Surveys show areas are overgrown with brush/trees decreasing their habitat suitability. Restoration activities may include prescribed burning, mowing, biomass removal and/or mastication.

Location

Sun Bowl (153 acres near Valhalla), 241 Habitat Treatment Unit (48 acres in the Moquah Barrens), 419 Pocket Barrens (37 acres) & Badger Pocket Barrens (48 acres) are near FR 236, north of Ino, WI.
