Flathead National Forest — Project Detail

Site-specific proposal on the Flathead National Forest to address the changes the revised forest plan (2018) made pertaining to suitability of motorized over-snow vehicle use and recommended wilderness areas.

The main objective of this project is to reduce fuels in areas where wildfires on NFS lands threaten communities and assets and provide protection to communities and essential infrastructure from wildfire threats.

Reconstruct a portion of the existing wastewater treatment system that serves a loop of the Holland Lake Campground and associated RV dump station, and the Holland Lake Lodge.

A project to improve the diversity and resilience of vegetative communities, remove and reduce fuels to promote a fire resilient forest and limit impacts to natural resources, and provide forest products to local economy.

The Swan Lake Ranger District, Flathead National Forest is proposing a combination of vegetation treatments and prescribed fire to reduce fuel loading within the wildland-urban interface (WUI) and restore resilient forested stands beyond the WUI.

Vegetation management project including commercial and non-commercial treatments to be more resilient to natural disturbances.

The Rad Reid Blowdown Salvage project proposes salvage treatments on approximately 512 acres of stands damaged during a wind event that occurred in December of 2025.

The project would treat hazardous fuels on approximately 364 acres for the purposes of fuels reduction and community infrastructure protection.

This is a forest health and fuels reduction project

Proposal includes commercial timber harvest, noncommercial treatments, and prescribed burning to reduce fuels, improve diversity, improve resilience to disturbances, and contribute to the local economy. Proposes system road development and maintenance, along with temporary road construction.

The purpose of the Mid-Swan Project is to restore and maintain terrestrial and aquatic biodiversity in light of climate change, and reduce the risk from wildfire in the WUI.

The project includes treatments on about 200 acres of NFS lands within the Whitefish Mountain Resort permit boundary. Treatments are designed to reduce forest density/fuel loading and improve stand diversity/resilience to reduce wildfire risk and protect resort infrastructure and private property.

The primary purpose of this project is to improve the diversity and resilience of forest vegetative communities and associated wildlife habitat.

The Mountain Guides Montana: 200 user days for avalanche education. Rooted Heart LLC:50 user days to provided guided snowshoe trips. Northwest Montana Adventures: 200 user days to provide guided day-use snowmobile tours.

The project proposes to authorize a 20-year special use permit to Holland Peak, LLC, to operate Holland Lake Lodge.

This project would facilitate the renewal of five existing priority outfitter and guide special use permits on the non-wilderness portions of the North and Middle Forks of the Three Forks of the Flathead Wild and Scenic River.

Proposal includes commercial timber harvesting, noncommercial treatments, and prescribed burning to improve diversity and resilience to disturbances such as drought, insects and disease, and wildfires. Project includes road construction/maintenance.

The Comprehensive Plan will develop administrative and management objectives and practices and desired conditions for the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail on public lands in Forest Service Regions 1 and Regions 6.
