In December of 2025, strong winds caused widespread damage in stands of mature timber across the Flathead National Forest. The Coal Banks Salvage project proposes treatments on approximately 228 acres of stands damaged during this wind event.
Location
The project includes 3 specific distinct areas; The North Fork of the Flathead River corridor near Coal Creek (referred to as Coal Banks), Fire Fighter Mountain, and along the South Fork of the Flathead River near the Spotted Bear Air Strip.
