In December 2025 and March 2026, Montana and Idaho were affected by severe wind events. Idaho Panhandle, Nez Perce-Clearwater, Lolo, Flathead, Bitterroot, and Kootenai Forests propose removal of wind damaged trees, fuel reduction, and replanting activities.
