White River National Forest — Project Detail

Proposal to manage Sweetwater Lake area for multiple user groups, allowing for the appropriate, consistent, sustainable, and holistic management. Forest Plan amendment to create a Management Area 8.22 –State or Local Government Managed Developed Recreation Areas. Issue CPW 20year SUP. PALS #64047

The Town of Frisco (TOF) and Summit Huts Association (Summit Huts) propose improvements projects at the Frisco Nordic Center (FNC) including a new winter Nordic ski trail, new summer multi-use trail, new Overnight Hut, and adjustments to the existing FNC special use permit (SUP) area.

This project would replace the roof, construct an accessible ramp at the side entrance, add interior lighting, and convert the facility to an overnight use facility by constructing furniture. The work would be accomplished in the summer of 2026.

The USDA Forest Service is proposing a project to implement approximately 2,617 acres of vegetation management activities on NFS lands. Vegetation planned for treatment is predominantly composed of Engelmann spruce and sub-alpine fir. PALS #68876

The Carbonate and Little Tommy Mines have been receiving efforts to characterize historically mined deposits, whose spatial distribution and quality are undetermined, since the late 1990’s. This Plan of Operations would authorize continuation of those efforts for another 5 years.

The proposed improvements include new ski trails and gladed terrain, snowmaking coverage, snowmaking pipes, a new pumphouse in the Elk Camp Pod, terrain park grading, new hiking and biking trails, a rerouted Rabbit Run Trail, a nature-based interactive exhibit, and a zipline. PALS #68958

Manage mountain shrub and aspen communities with vegetation management techniques including mechanical treatment, prescribed fire, hand treatments, seeding/planting, and rehabilitation on up to 14,121 acres over a period of 15-20 years. PALS #65795

Holy Cross Electric Association, Inc.,(HCE) proposes to construct a new 115-kV transmission line between the existing Gilman and Avon Substations. The proposed route is 8.9 miles and would cross approximately 3.3 miles of National Forest System Lands

Rocky Mountain Natural Gas, LLC (RMNG) is requesting approval from the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) to replace an aging 3-inch natural gas pipeline with a new 10-inch natural gas pipeline in the Wolf Creek Storage Field in Pitkin County, CO.

Recreation management and access improvements are proposed to the southern portion of the Tenmile Mountain Range in Summit County, CO. Proposed actions include recreation infrastructure improvements and trailhead access improvements.

Aspen Skiing Company is proposing to remove two chairlifts (Little Nell Chairlift, on private property and Bell Mountain Chairlift, partially on USFS property) and replace with one chairlift at Aspen Mountain.

Keystone Resort is proposing replacement of the A-51 lift with a new high-speed detachable quad. Associated grading for a new top and bottom terminal area will enable better skier circulation, lift maze and milling space with the higher capacity lift

The Forest Service is proposing approximately 1,250 acres of fuels reduction activities and approximately 25 miles of trails decommission, improvement, and construction activities near the Town of Frisco.

Replacing and consolidating the existing Green-Wilson Hut, outhouse, and woodshed on NFS lands managed by the WRNF. The new structure would be built on the existing concrete foundation, with minor repairs and a slight expansion

Breckenridge Ski Resort (BSR) is proposing projects on Peak 9 including the installation of a new gondola teaching terrain, and the replacement of C-Chair to relieve portal crowding and improve the experience for guests learning to ski and ride.

Breckenridge Stables proposes the replacement of temporary mobile buildings with a permanent operations building and a permanent guest services building. Water and power utilities are planned to provide indoor toilets and options for food services.

Project modification of the 2011 EA and DN-FONSI adding mastication as treatment method on approximately 7,454 acres of previously analyzed prescribed fire treatment areas within Colorado Roadless areas.

A proposal to approve a Plan of Operations for mining-related activities that would be conducted on National Forest System lands administered by the Dillon Ranger District of the White River National Forest.

The proposed action will create an economical gravel source used to maintain the road surface of Coffee Pot Road (NFSR 600) and other roads and facilities in the area. Formerly used gravel pits, Boom Boom #1 and #2 , would be reestablished/expanded.
