Ashley National Forest — Project Detail

This is a proposal for small-scale locatable minerals exploration and sampling, within and adjacent to an existing Forest Service rock quarry.

We would authorize Strata Networks, under a special use permit, to install and operate a telecommunications facility, including a 100-foot tall monopine cell tower and associated infrastructure, near the Red Canyon Lodge.

We would install 20,000 gallons of water storage for the existing spring system, put in two cattleguards, and build a 0.5-mile fence to improve allotment infrastructure and management.

We would remove generally small diameter trees throughout a 59-acre treatment area in and around the campground, followed by broadcast burning in the area.

This project is the replacement of two sections of the Oaks Park pipeline to maintain functioning water pipeline infrastructure in this area.

The proposed project would authorize prescribed burns across the Forest up to 24,000 acres/year. Treatment boundaries would be designed to meet objectives and move areas toward desired conditions. Wilderness, RNAs, private land, & alpine excluded.

This project would involve approximately 162 acres of fuel break and vegetation thinning work around the Summit Springs Guard Station to reduce the risk of high-intensity wildfire in this area.

Approximately 12 miles of the 88-mile railway route crosses Forest Service (FS) lands. The original FS decision was withdrawn 1/17/2024 in response to a court ruling that vacated the analysis. Additional 2025 court rulings reversed the vacatur.

Small-scale exploratory drilling for hard rock locatable minerals within existing mining claims in the Dry Ridge area. The purpose of the project is to respond to the claim holder's submitted plan of operations for proposed mineral activities.

This project would involve waterline replacement and spring redevelopment to provide safe and reliable water to the Moon Lake recreation complex.

This project involves constructing a new fence to accommodate anticipated future mining and processing operations at the Limestone Mine in the Diamond Mountain area, while keeping cattle and visitors safely out of active mining areas.

Reconstruction and reroute of approximately 2.4 miles of the washed out Cow Hollow Trail. The purpose of the project is to restore non-motorized access into the Cow Hollow drainage.

Thinning up to 7-inch diameter at breast height (DBH) trees from lodgepole pine stands across 796 roadside acres. The purpose of the project is to improve forest health and reduce the risk of undesirable wildfires.

This is a proposed 308-acre linear fuel break on National Forest System lands adjacent to private lands in Davenport Draw.

The proposed action is to approve a Plan of Operations submitted to the Forest, which consists of a proposal to reopen and sample an old collapsed mine adit, in the Farm Creek area of the Ashley National Forest.

We are developing a new management plan with direction for all resources and resource uses in the Flaming Gorge NRA.

This project would involve reentry of approximately 7,820 acres of previously treated shrub communities with a hand crew using chainsaws to remove the encroaching conifer. Maintenance of the original treatments would likewise maintain habitat.

This is a Forest Service and Ute Tribe cross-boundary fuels management project to reduce the likelihood of undesirable fires, improve forest health, enhance wildlife habitat, protect improvements, and increase public safety.

This would be an approximately 721-acre fuels reduction project. Vegetation treatments would include mastication, mowing, slashing, and piling and burning.

This is a proposed timber, fuels, forest health, and safety project and would include approximately 3,458 acres of forested vegetation treatments, including in areas designated as a Utah Shared Stewardship priority landscape.

The project would involve a special use authorization to drill a fresh water well at cabin lot #10 in the Deer Lodge permitted recreation residence area. The well would be ~60-100 feet deep and 6 inches wide.

We would create a fuel break along existing linear features in the project area, primarily the White Cloud Loop. The fuel break would be approximately 2,500 acres and 600 feet wide.

We are proposing to reroute two sections of the Brown Duck Trail and one section of the Lake Fork Trail (totaling 1.9 miles of reroute) to address trail damage from winter storms. The project area falls outside of the wilderness boundary.

We would designate a slash pile site for Deer Lodge recreation residence permittees to encourage firewise practices. Forest Service employees would burn the pile site as necessary.

This project would involve installing 4,500 feet of high density polyethylene (HDPE) line in the Red Canyon recreation corridor. This includes the installation of components such as drains, valve boxes, air vents, and other water control devices.

The project would involve replacing the Upper Greendale waterline that services several sites in the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area.

This project would involve replacing two yurt structures. We would remove the old structures and construct two new yurts with support decking. We would also install new restrooms.

This project would approve the installation of a solar energy system at a recreation residence permitted to Guy Brown.

The Forest Service is considering amending its land management plans to address new and evolving issues arising since implementing sage-grouse plans in 2015. This project is in cooperation with the USDI Bureau of Land Management.
