Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area — Project Detail

This project restore lower gradient reaches and complex low-energy habitats for Coho and Fall Chinook rearing and spawning by restoring valley bottom reconnection. This is the second phase of comprehensive restoration on Woodard Creek.

This project would protect an ecologically important remnant stand of old-growth ponderosa pine. Initial treatment: undergrowth thinning, small tree removal, fuel manipulation and snag creation. Outyear treatments: pile burning and broadcast burning.

The proposed action is to replace the existing stream crossing structures with a bridge within the right-of-way where Kueffler Road (FSR 1400)crosses the East Fork Woodard Creek, providing aquatic organism passage and restoring the natural channel.

The Forest Service is proposing geotechnical services which would involve excavation of up to four test pits within the existing Herman Creek campground and trailhead area.

The Drano Project is designed to improve forest conditions and wildlife habitat by restoring resiliency to fire-dependent habitats. This will be accomplished through the reduction of in-growth of small trees the encroachment of Douglas-fir.

Proposal to develop a environmentally sustainable multiple use trail system. Proposal would add 12 to 15 miles of new trail to an already existing system.

The Forest service proposes to issue Skamania County Public Utility District a special use permit authorizing the undergrounding of several hundred feet of overhead powerline at Mt. Zion to improve system resiliency and reduce wildlife potential.

The purpose of the project is to restore Woodard Creek stream processes and improve habitat functions by increasing wood quantities and riparian forest conditions in Upper Woodard Creek.

Install buried fiber optic cable along Brower and Toll Rd. Installation will be on NFS lands along previously disturbed roadways and will include digging about twenty cable junction vaults. No cross-country installation is proposed.

Proposed reissuance of eleven Priority Use (10-year) Outfitter Guide permits authorizing commercial boating on the White Salmon and Klickitat Wild & Scenic Rivers and to establish parameters for temporary outfitter guide permit systems on both rivers

Grant a road easement for those portions of the Courtney Road realignment project crossing National Forest System lands outside of the existing right of way.

Improve management of recreation and natural resources on National Forest System lands along the Wild and Scenic Klickitat River at river mile one, within the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.

Prescribes treatments for invasive plants on Mt. Hood NF and Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area in Oregon on approx. 13,000 acres (208 sites) with a combination of treatments including herbicide, manual, mechanical and cultural (goat grazing).

Herman Creek Horse Camp was closed in 2014 because of concerns about laminated root rot and public safety. The proposed action would remove infected and potentially infected trees and revegetate the treated area with resistant, native tree species.

Proposal to construct a permanent double vault toilet facility at the Wahclella Falls Trailhead. The project would improve visitor services and address impacts from improper waste disposal at this site. The site is currently served by porta-potties.

Replace the Eagle Creek Trail Bridge, which was destroyed during the 2017 Eagle Creek Fire. The new bridge would be designed to support the potable water line serving the Eagle Creek Recreation area and nearby ODFW Fish Hatchery.

1) Replace existing underground powerlines and issues a 20 year special use permit for use and maintenance. 2) Issue a 20 year special use permit for installation and maintenance of a new fiber optic line between Larch Mountain Road and Latourell.

Determine trail network on Coyote Wall/Burdoin Mountain/Catherine Creek. Identify appropriate parking locations.

The FS proposes to improve the riparian area North of Horsetail Falls by grading, invasive weed control and installing log structures.

The project would enhance habitat for ESA-listed Chinook salmon, coho salmon, chum salmon, and steelhead trout through large wood installations utilizing a combination of helicopter, excavator and hand crew completing large wood placement

Surface the new Multnomah Falls Spur Trail #441A with Geotextile fabric and cap with a 3 ¼ minus aggregate, with the intent on later surfacing with asphalt. Decommission and rehabilitate the old portion of Trail #441A by removing asphalt and reseed.

The proposal includes improving universal accesibility conditions for visitors to Wahkeena Falls.

Authorize a trail and trailheads in the Cape Horn Area.

The purpose of this project is to restore stream function and floodplain connectivity to Bridal Veil Creek in the Bridal Veil Creek-Columbia River Priority Subwatershed and improve water quality.

Reissuance of Special Use Permits to 1) Cascade Utilities, Inc. and Portland General Electric to operate and maintain co-located existing underground utilities; 2) US Army Corps of Engineers for existing piezometer for monitoring groundwater levels.

This project would renovate the existing restroom at Eagle Creek Overlook, and replace the existing flush toilet facilities at Eagle Creek Trailhead and Campground with accessible vault toilets. Failing septic systems would be decommissioned.

Issuance of a special use permit to Skamania Public Utility District for existing overhead power lines and an access route near Woodard Creek Rd and Scott Rd in Skamania County.

The FS is developing a proposal for the creation of a developed river access site which would provide for kayak/ raft access.

Reissuance of five-year special use permits for five annual, 1-day recreational events (marathon staging, bike race finish, three running events) on developed recreation sites and National Forest System trails in Hood River and Multnomah Counties.

Improve approximately 500 feet of trail which would provide boater portage around BZ Falls. The trail improvement is to be located above the ordinary high water mark on the Wild and Scenic Lower White Salmon River.

Replacement of an existing direct bury electrical line with a buried conduit system, using directional boring. The City's current special use permit will be amended to include existing buried line and pole not currently in the permit.

The purpose of this project is to implement stream/ riparian restoration identified in the Watershed Restoration Plan.

The proposed project is to remove and replace the Multnomah Creek Bridge at milepost 1.9 of the Larch Mountain Trail (#441).

Replace the existing Shady Creek bridge.

Issuance of two new pasture permits, one for low intensity livestock grazing in Skamania County, WA; one for wheat cultivation in Wasco County, OR.

Issuance of a special use permit to Oregon Department of Transportation for the construction of the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail.

Issuance of short term special use permit to allow Northwest Pipeline GP (Northwest) to use an existing dirt road on National Forest System land.

Restore the historic main channel of the Sandy River at the delta by removing a dam built in the 1930s and excavating a pilot channel within the historic main channel, which will improve habitat for salmon and steelhead.

A consistency review for the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area has been completed for this project.

The proposal is for a special use permit to install and maintain less than 1 mile of fiber-optic line in existing road and powerline corridors on National Forest System lands.

Legislated land exchange to transfer 10 acres of National Forest System Lands to the Port of Cascade Locks, Oregon.

Proposal to close and decommission approximately 10 miles of road in the Little Wind River vicinity.

Habitat improvement structures at the mouth of Woodard Creek.

Collect cut logs along existing roads which were cut under a previous NEPA document for aquatic habitat restoration projects. After logs have been collected the project area would be underburned.

Reissue a new permit to replace the expiring permit for existing telecommunication lines.

The FS proposes to reissue a Special Use Permit for the U.S. Coast Guard for river navigation aids at 5 locations on NFS lands along the Columbia River between Moffet Creek and Miller Island.

Issue priority use permits for expiring permits and develop priority and temporary use pools for outfitter and guide use on the Klickitat and White Salmon Rivers.
