Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit — Project Detail

Project will construct erosion control improvements in the urban area of the Upper Bijou Park Creek, addressing flooding issues and needed roadway improvements. Creek channel will also be restored upstream and downstream of Pioneer Trail

The special use permits for El Dorado County have expired and an application for their renewal has been submitted. The permits authorize erosion control improvements on National Forest System lands.

Process special use permit application for construction of Segment 1 (1.7 miles; 2.88ac. on federal lands) of paved, non-motorized, multi-use North Tahoe Regional Trail connecting Kings Beach and Tahoe City.

Designate roads, trails, and areas where OSV use is in accordance with Subpart C of the Travel Management Rule. Create snow-play areas, expand parking lots, and groom motorized and non-motorized trails. Add a Forest Plan Amendment.

Determination of NEPA Adequacy to move the proposed location of the SR 28 Secret Harbor Parking lot to the south along FS Road in the location of a previous fuels project landing on NFS road 1556

Current work is determining the scope and scale of future improvements at Zephyr Cove Resort. There are no specific projects proposed yet. Project description will be updated when actual projects are developed.

Restoration of Burke Creek through Rabe Meadow to the mouth at Lake Tahoe. Existing Jennings Pond will be returned to a natural floodplain meadow. A new channel and mouth will be constructed adjacent to the campground. Fill Kahle ditch.

The Project proposes to replace the existing, failing drainage system with an underground double box culvert (7-foot wide x 2.5-foot wide) from the meadow to Lake Tahoe.

Renew the special use permit (SUP) for the expired Angora water tank access road. The application proposes that the road be added via amendment to an existing SUP that authorizes all STPUD water system improvements.

Conduct aquatic plant control and management throughout suitable habitat areas in Lake Tahoe, California and Nevada and the Truckee River. Partners with Tahoe Resource Conservation District and Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.

Use mechanical methods for control of target invasive fish in the Lake Tahoe regions. Target invasive fish species are species that contribute to declines in native and desirable recreational non-native fish.

The proposed project will protect and restore approximately 900 lineal feet of stream bank, riparian and wet meadow habitat. It will also provide conservation and protection for approximately 2,000 lineal feet of river.

Preparation of a revised land management plan (forest plan) and will also prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) for this revised plan.

Rebuild existing power lines from Truckee to Kings Beach and Kings Beach to Tahoe City. Including an upgrade in capacity from 60kV to 120kV. Relocate most of Kings Beach to Tahoe City line.

This project is intended to enhance summer activities in response to the USDA Forest Service Ski Area Recreational Enhancement Act of 2011.

Construction of a permanent ticket sales kiosk, relocation of the Red Fir handle tow lift, installation of a Magic Carpet surface lift, obstacle removal and widening of the Tamarack Return Trail and tree removal under the Blue Streak Zipline.

The goal of this project is to improve public safety and provide a sustainable hydrologic system. The proposed action is to remove the dam and restore the area.

The LTBMU Proposes recurring maintenance, upgrades, operation, administration, and uses of existing roads, trails and facilities located on NFS lands in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Use prescribed fire to treat previously treated areas and introduce fire into fire adapted ecosystems.

Vegetation and fuels treatments in urban defense zone. Treatments may include thinning of live trees and brush, chipping, piling, and prescribed burning.

Combination of mechanical and hand treatments, biomass utilization, and prescribed burning in order to reduce forest surface fuels and conifer density within the WUI surrounding the communities and infrastructure around Spooner and Glenbrook areas.

The West Shore Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Hazardous Fuels Reduction project proposes vegetation and fuels treatments to reduce stand densities, reduce fuel loading and continuity.

Programmatic treatments to address ongoing fuels and forest health needs on NFS urban forest parcels and within WUI Defense Zone.

The Incline Village General Improvement District requests a special use permit to construct a dog park with fencing, parking, trails, and restrooms on approx. 3 acres of a 13-acre parcel.

Renew the expired special use permit for Round Hill General Improvement District. Proposed new facilities include a secondary 150,000 gallon water storage tank, security fencing and employee bathroom.

South Tahoe Public Utility District proposes to build a new retaining wall to support a new water tank located on private land. Add the retaining wall via amendment to an existing special use permit for STPUD water system improvements.

Continue use of national forest lands for guided cat-ski tour operations in Ellis Peak and Knee Ridge areas for tours, adding a route that extends eastward along Knee Ridge to North Bowl.

Approximately 5,300 acres, the project consists of vegetation treatments in forest corridors adjacent to Nevada Energy transmission power lines. Improves wildlife habitat, forest health, and fuel reduction. COMMENT PERIOD BEGINS 11/20/20.

Amendment to existing special use permit that authorizes other El Dorado County bike paths. Proposal to construct 0.23 miles of new Class 1 shared use path, referred to as the San Bernardino Bike Path from East San Bernardino Ave

Construct new erosion control structures to reduce stormwater runoff. Add the structures via amendment to an existing special use permit that authorizes El Dorado County erosion control improvements.

Reductions in fuel loading, replanting, remove fire-killed trees, trees that are likely to die because of fire damage, & other trees that pose a hazard to roads, trails, private property & in developed recreation sites impacted by the Caldor Fire

The Tahoe Mountain Communications Site Project consists of installation of a new 130-foot tall monopine tower, an equipment shelter, electrical power lines, and access road improvements to increase cell phone coverage for South Lake Tahoe users.

Rebuild approximately 9.23 mile, 60 kilovolt (kV) transmission line within the existing right-of-way between the Voltaire Substation in Carson City, Nevada and Glenbrook Substation, Douglas County, Nevada.

Construct erosion control improvements on national forest lands near State Route 28 at Marlette Creek. Purpose is to reduce the quantity of fine sediment discharge reaching Marlette Creek and Lake Tahoe from NDOT right-of-way.

Combination of mechanical, hand, and prescribed burning treatments to reduce surface fuels and conifer density within the WUI surrounding communities of Cedar Flat, Carnelian Bay, Tahoe Vista, and Kings Beach.

Install a new 65-foot tall monopole tower and an equipment shelter to increase cell phone coverage for Spooner area users. A helicopter would be used during construction to transport the equipment up to the site.

The project will amend the Forest Plan to designate 400 acres of the project area as backcountry management area, as well as project-specific management actions related to roads and trails, travel management, restoration and vegetation management.

Continuation of Stateline to Stateline bike path from Sand Harbor to Spooner Summit. Remove highway parking, co-locate utilities with bikeway, improve existing parking lots and create new parking, highway pull-outs, water quality BMPs.

To authorize a new communication facility lease (ELD402502) for thirty years to install a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) to serve the Heavenly Ski Resort area and an amendment to ELD409201 Liberty Utilities for additional fiber optic cable.

Permit will authorize Far West Nordic Ski Education to conduct a 1-day xc ski and snowshoe race (max. 300 participants) on NFS lands for 5 years. Race is over snow with required snow depth of 12 inches; no ground disturbing activity authorized.

Project intends to use hand thinning and prescribed fire to restore priority meadows to reduce conifer encroachment, improve native riparian/wetland plant abundance and vigor, and improve habitat for native riparian dependant species.

Approximately 6,300 acres, the project consists of vegetation treatments in 55 miles of forest corridors adjacent to Liberty Utility power lines. These treatments would occur in untreated areas and would also connect previously treated areas.

Issuance of an event special use permit for 400 mile multi-sport event on system roads and trails (including Tahoe Rim Trail) on the LTBMU, Eldorado National Forest, and Tahoe National Forest. Event is scheduled for August 20-28.

Issuance of an 5 year event special use permit for 200 mile run utilizing National Forest system roads and trails (including Tahoe Rim Trail) on both the LTBMU and Eldorado National Forest. Event is scheduled yearly during September.

This project is designed to serve as a pilot project for meadow restoration. The project will reinitiate cultural stewardship practices to restore the meadow ecosystem. The project will reduce hazardous fuel loadings and restore native vegetation.

Haz fuels reduction & healthy forest activities in the urban defense zone on 3,800 acres. Mechanical treatments up to 3,000 ac. Thinning, aspen & meadow health, prescribed fire, forest health activities, re-entry in past treatment areas.

Construct a Lodge at the top of the Gondola, replace Galaxy ski lift, 4 new ski trails in the Galaxy pod, new snowmaking in the Galaxy pod, Implement hazard reduction on portions of California trail, relocate the umbrella bar to snow beach.

The objective is to assign management direction, restore the historic stream channel in High Meadows, reduce conifer encroachment into the meadow, and plan the road and trail system to minimize resource damage.

Project to restore components of wildlife habitat, vegetation, forest fuels, water quality, recreation, and transportation within the Angora Fire perimenter. Pre-NEPA public scoping occurring in Spring 2008 would determine scope of project activities

An EA associated with proposed water quality, safety, utility and accessibility retrofits and vehicle circulation for campground areas and parking areas within the resort.

Treat areas within the WUI defense zone to reduce potential for catastrophic wildland fire by reducing wildland fire intensity and potential for sustained crown fire and long-range spotting. Also to provide defensible space adjacent to communities.

Protect long-term water quality of Lake Tahoe by reducing existing sediment source near the Valhalla Pier and provide access to the pier consistent with Forest Service Outdoor Recreation Accessibility Guidelines (FSORAG).

Issuance of an event special use permit authorizing multiple TAMBA events.

Issuance of an event special use permit authorizing commercial activities (e.g. vendor and food and beverage sales) within the Tallac Historic Site

Issuance of a 5 year event special use permit authorizing 5k, 10k, and half-marathon in the Fallen Leaf area. Event is typically scheduled around October 4.

The proposal intends to restore habitat for LCT utilizing manual removal of nonnative fish from Glen Alpine Creek from Modjeska Falls downstream to Fallen Leaf Lake including Lily Lake

Redevelopment of day use facilities within Round Hill Pines Resort including parking lot, food and beverage service building, swimming pool and tennis court area, and enhancement to entrance road.

Issuance of an event special use permit for hike from Kingsbury South TH to Big Meadows TH

Proposes placing two infiltration basins on the Zephyr Cove Resort,requires a SUP.

Ecosystem restoration in Taylor and Tallac creek watersheds.

The goal of the project is to restore ecological function and processes within the Burke Creek channel and its adjacent floodplain, reduce pollutant loading to Lake Tahoe, and improve public safety on Highway 50 related to flooding.

Development of a LTBMU-wide events and outfitting and guiding strategy.

The project will protect and restore approximately 900 lineal feet of stream bank, riparian and wet meadow habitat.

5-year issuance of the Camp Richardson Resort special use permit.

To reissue special use permit TAH405001 for 10 years.

Project will replace the existing obsolete and inadequate restrooms with a new restroom facility. The new facility will increase capacity and meet ABA requirements. The existing restroom facility will be removed once the new facility is complete.

Permit will authorize operation and maintenance of the ski runs known as Main Cirque, 55 Chutes, Wally's Folly, The Shoulder, Third Creek, and Nooncester Traverse.

The purpose of this project is to reissue a Special Use Permit for Camp Richardson Corral

Vegetation and fuels treatments within the wildland urban interface directly adjacent to the community of Incline Village in Nevada. Treatments include a combination of tree thinning, biomass removal, prescribed burning, chipping, and mastication.

This project will redevelop the trail systems within the project boundaries in order to establish a sustainable trail system that meets current and future needs.

SUP to install erosion control practices on FS urban lots.

Restoration of Meeks Meadow ecosystem through Lodgepole pine encroachment removal, prescribed burning and debris removal.

Additional summer uses in the Adventure Peak area at the top of the Gondola such as a new climbing wall, ziplines, canopy tour, adventure course and aerial challenge park are proposed by Heavenly Mountain Resort.

The Sunset Reach of the Upper Truckee River is planned for restoration activities to improve the natural geomorphic function of the channel by raising the bed elevation and reducing channel size.

This project consists of approximately 3.9 miles of Class 1 or better trail linking Sierra Tract with Van Sickle Bi-State Park. Approximately .26 miles are on National Forest System land.

Issue a new 10-year permit to the California Alpine Club to maintain and operate the existing Lodge and associated facilities. No changes are proposed with continued use of the facilities.

This project would allow construction and maintenance of a 10-foot-wide paved path with 2-foot shoulders on both sides across National Forest System land between Roundhill pines and the NV/CA border at Stateline, NV.

Continued implementation of Heavenly's Master Development Plan.Projects include tree removal for run widening, trail and access improvements, Kids Adventure Zone at Adventure Peak, and replacement of ski school facilities at the top of the Gondola.

Implement water quality BMP's at the resort

Provide funding for implementation of a project that will reduce erosion on existing road shoulders, reduce peak storm flows, maximize infiltration opportunities and attempt to help meet regulatory requirements to the greatest extent practicable.

Reconfigure work center parking to provide water quality protection BMP measures and efficient vehicle circulation.

Reduce coverage, relocate campsites out of SEZ's, install BMP's and provide accessibility upgrades. Consider opportunities for slight capacity increase.

Conduct NEPA analysis to determine what level of grazing, if any, is suitable for the Baldwin Grazing Allotment.

Restore natural drainage patterns by breaching a ditch berm in 2-3 locations within a reach of approximately 70 feet and constructing 3-5 waterbars on an abandoned logging road on a terrace above Ward Creek near the Stanford Rock Road crossing.

Remove encroaching conifers from aspen stands identified in the 2002-2007 Aspen Stand inventory as being at high and highest risk of loss.

Reduce coverage, relocate campsites out of SEZ's, Install BMP's and provide accessibility upgrades. Maintain capacity.

Annual maintenance of LTBMU roads.

Implement guidelines for preventive and corrective maintenance of existing trails with the LTBMU trail system

Bank stabilization and flood plain restoration to match the upstream and downstream floodplain morphology. Denuded areas will be revegetated through seeding with naturally occurring weed free grasses.

The Daggett Summit Trail System Project (formerly Tahoe Rim Trail Daggett Summit Project) will relocate the existing Daggett area TRT from paved streets to forested land, provide loop trail opportunities, and connect the TRT to Van Sickle State Park.

Reclaim Lahontan Cutthroat Trout (LCT) habitat in the Upper Truckee River (below Meiss Meadows) by removing non-native trout species. Project will utilize manual fish control measures.

The LTBMU is proposing to redevelop the trail systems within the project boundaries in order to establish a sustainable trail system that meets current and future needs.

A combination of gill netting and electrofishing to remove introduced brook trout and rainbow trout will occur within selected lakes in Desolation Wilderness to restore habitat for mountain yellow-legged frog (Rana muscosa).

Restoration of approximately 3.5 miles of stream channel in Blackwood Valley. Project areas are upstream and downstream of the Barker Pass road crossing.

Use commercial removal and non-commercial hazard mitigation of standing hazard trees in the Angora Fire area on approximately 255 acres that pose risk to human life and property along Forest Service system roads and trails.

Amend Land and Resource Management Plans for ten (10) Forests within the Sierra Nevada region by modifying Management Indicator Species (MIS) lists and associated monitoring strategies.

Environmental Review for providing a trail transportation system that allows for public recreation opportunities by designating recreation uses while minimizing adverse impacts to water quality, vegetation, wildlife, fisheries and cultural resources.

Replace existing entry kiosk buildings at Baldwin and Nevada beaches. Remove limited asphalt at Baldwin Beach parking area.

Redevelopment of the exisiting campgrounds, utilities and restroom.
