Shoshone National Forest — Project Detail

The Shoshone National Forest proposes to authorize helicopter based grizzly bear capture and collar operations for up to 15 grizzly bears within the Washakie Wilderness in support of an ongoing study to document grizzly bear use of Army Cutworm Moth sites in relation changes in human presence.

The intent of this project is to selectively remove conifer trees from 43 acres of crucial habitats used by the imperiled Whiskey Mountain bighorn sheep herd located in the northeast portion of the Wind River Mountain range.

Dubois Telephone Exchange is proposing to install an additional fiber optic line within existing conduit as well as to upgrade segments within the existing utility lines on USFS Lands.

High Plains Power, Inc. proposes to replace and bury approximately 15 miles of existing primary overhead power lines. The power lines service inholdings located in the Horse Creek area of the Wind River District of the Shoshone National Forest.

Project to address hazardous fuels build up adjacent to lodge and to upgrade lodge water source in same area.

The Wyoming Game and Fish proposes to expand the bighorn sheep test and remove program to the eastern part of the Whiskey Mountain herd located partially in the Fitzpatrick Wilderness of the Wind River Ranger District of the Shoshone National Forest.

Proposal to construct a new buried power transmission line from the junction of Forest Service Road (FSR) 366.3A and FSR 326 to the Beaver Creek Subdivision to provide power to the subdivision.

The Shoshone National Forest is considering a minimum road system and a designated system of roads and trails for wheeled vehicle (motorized) use and trails and areas for over-snow vehicle use across the Forest.

This analysis identifies the visitor use capacity on National Forest System lands only, on the Nez Perce National Historic Trail to assist in the protection and management of trail resources.

The Belknap allotment permittees would like to install a point of diversion, pipeline, and up to three water tanks to draw use away from riparian areas currently used by livestock.

Due to the water system past its serviceable age, current tank and pipes would be replaced and addition of a water tank that is resistant to cold temperatures that would be dug in the hillside deep enough to bury the bulk of the tank.

Trail reconstruction on Fishhawk Trail due to the 2022 flood event that washed out a portion of the trail. The trail will be reconstructed to connect back to the original trail.

Proposal for integrated project to improve riparian conditions and administrative site management along the Wapiti Ranger Station, North Fork of the Shoshone River, South Fork of the Shoshone River, and East Painter Creek.

The landowner is requesting to acquire a special use permit for approximately 1960 cubic yards of rock material from Forest Service land adjacent to his property.

Permittees would like to restore the cabin to better match the original historical appearance allowing for a more aesthetic and improved look in the forest.

Proposing to build a small porch roof above front deck to prevent further water damage. Wood posts would match existing log construction and roof will match existing roof material and would like to plant 13 aspen trees in front of the cabin.

The ranch would like to extend an existing fence approximately 0.13 miles upslope and terminate the fence in an area that will make it more conducive to livestock containment and a temporary fence to keep livestock out of water sources.

The isolated cabin sustained damage from a flood event in the North Fork Corridor in 2022. The owners are proposing work on the creek, barrier retaining wall, cabin exterior, and yard to prevent future damage and restore the cabin's current condition

Proposal to place a portable sauna behind the Top of the World motel. The plan is to have the sauna open for summer use May 27-Oct 15 and winter use Dec 24-Apr 15.

WYDOT has requested a temporary construction special use permit for two sections along the North Fork Highway for the installation of temporary non-earthen cofferdams for the construction only.

The ranch currently has a tack shed that need replaced and the owner has requested to build the new tack shed in their old round ring that sits further from the road to prevent theft and the round ring has gravel that will prevent future water damage

Proposing to install approximately 100' of pipe in the current ditch

Wyoming Department of Transportation requested a 10 year temporary construction permit for approximately 0.28 acres located adjacent to the existing Right-of-Way on Highway 296 for the purpose of sloping, bending, and reclamation.

The proposal is to renew a term special use permit to PacifiCorp, dba Rocky Mountain Power, for the operation and maintenance of a powerline system. All 40 permits would be combined into one master permit.

Union Telephone Company is proposing to replace existing cell tower structures and update adjoining facilities at the current telecommunications site. Comments requested by 5/27/2022 using the comment link.

Proposal to reclaim an abandoned mine in the Jack Creek area on the Greybull Ranger District.

Proposed project to replace existing septic system at the Louis Lake Lodge.

The road is impassable to full size vehicles due to the uneven road surface caused by the reoccurring slide. The purpose of the Parque Creek Slide Repair Project is to permanently stabilize the road segment that is prone to sliding.

The Shoshone National Forest has signed a decision memorandum authorizing a project to improve habitat for the Whiskey Mountain Bighorn Sheep herd in the Glacier Addition to the Fitzpatrick Wilderness on the Wind River Ranger District.

The Forest Service proposes the Double D Ranch barn, and two lower cabins be used as a Cow Camp in the interest of preserving those structures long term and supporting grazing operations in the Kirwin allotment along the Wood River.

A project to install a pipeline to supply water at adequate pressure to supply 2 new pivots to replace flood irrigation with sprinklers to help conserve water and soil erosion.

The Forest is proposing to renew the Central Wyoming College Communications Uses Permit (WKD201101)

The purpose of the Clay Butte Slide Repair Project is to permanently stabilize a segment of Forest Service Road 142 that is prone to sliding.

Project intends to treat aspen stands within the Gooseberry Creek drainage by mechanically thinning and scattering conifers encroaching into aspen stands to create a favorable fuel bed for follow-up broadcast burn treatment.

The Shoshone National Forest is proposing to authorize the Lander Nordic Ski Association to extend the Inner Pipeline Trail at the Beaver Creek Cross-Country Ski Trails to improve grooming operations.

The Shoshone National Forest proposes to utilize commercial timber harvest to reduce hazardous fuels, remove beetle killed timber, and timber at risk to insect infestation in the Dick Creek area.

Reissuance of Brooks Lake Lodge Resort and Outfitting and Guiding special use authorization for a new 20-year term. The new authorization would include all the current authorized facilities and guest services, with minor revisions.

The purpose of the Loop Road Maintenance project is to improve sight distance by constructing pull-outs, add additional curve-widening, and perform road-side brushing. Aggregate added to road and signs installed.

This project involves chemically treating Soda Butte Creek and tributary streams to remove exotic brook trout and restore a Yellowstone cutthroat trout fishery.

Proposal to develop a stock water point of use from existing water tank systems.

Project is a proposal for range improvement activities that involve constructing a stock water tank and running poly-pipe in the ground from an existing private stock tank to the newly constructed stock tank on Forest Service lands.

The Forest Service is proposing to issue a new permit to the Cody Country Snowmobile Association to operate and maintain a shelter. The permit authorizes them to place a trailer within the Island Lake Campground. The permit expired 12/31/2017.

The Shoshone National Forest is proposing to authorize DTE to relocate approximately 520%u2019 of existing copper and fiber optic lines that provide critical long haul and local services to the communities of Dubois and Jackson.

Proposal is to move an outfitting and guiding base camp to a new and more appropriate location.

The project removes flood caused large wood debris jams to direct flows back to the main Sunlight Channel versus continuing to flow down old road D101.1D.

The Shoshone National Forest proposes to renew the Resort Special Use Permit issued to Steve Faerber of the Resort at Louis Lake, LLC located on the Washakie Ranger District about 30 miles Southwest of Lander, WY, just off of Forest Road 300.

The project will stabilize the left bank of the Wood River at the Wood River Campground using toe-wood structures, reshaping the channel, and reestablishing the bankfull overflow channel on the right bank. The left bank is experiencing lateral scour.

Issuance of a road use easement for access to private parcels held by the EA Ranch and Horse Creek Lodge.

The Forest Service is proposing to issue a new permit to the Park County Nordic Ski Association (PCNSA). The PCNSA operates and maintains cross-country ski trails under special use permit with the Shoshone National Forest.

We are proposing to reissue a permit to the Federal Highway Administration for construction work on the Beartooth Highway. The original permit (CFK112) was issued in July of 2004 and expired 2014.

We are proposing to issue 8 Priority Outfitting and Guiding permits on the North Zone of the Shoshone National Forest.

The Shoshone National Forest is proposing to renew multiple special use permits that have previously been reviewed through the NEPA process and authorized. A total of 62 permits are being considered.

The current bridge over the Down%u2019s Fork has been compromised by two glacial outbursts and is in need of replacement. The proposed action is to install a new bridge about 1 mile upstream at a location where the creek is straight.

Proposal is to construct 1.0 mile of new trail (North Country Trail) and rehabilitating and adopting .6 miles of existing user created trail (Aspen Glades Trail) in the Wild Iris climbing area of Limestone Mountain.

Construction of a non-motorized trail from Hwy 26/287 at Togwotee Pass to connect with NFS Trail #823. This trail is intended to be part of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail once a separate project moving the trail is completed.

The Shoshone National Forest is proposing the approval of an 800 square foot addition, well, and septic for a recreation residence located within the Moss Creek Tract, lot C. The current cabin is authorized under special use permit #WAP426.

The Forest Service is proposing to issue a permit to Rocky Mountain Power to rebuild and relocate 652 feet of a standard 14.4KV overhead existing power line line that is being encroached by the South Fork of the Shoshone River.

The project concerns the potential conversion of 15 transitional special use permits into priority special use permits.

Park County is the owner of road bridge EGI (County Road 6BU) which crosses the North Fork of the Shoshone River. The bridge has been identified as structurally deficient and the County proposes to replace it with a new bridge immediately upstream.
