Angeles National Forest — Project Detail

Renegade Towers, LLC, is proposing to build, operate, and maintain a communications tower and generator. This is especially important for interagency operations during emergency incidents.

A proposal to provide limited recreational access to a critical wildlife habitat area, with seasonal and long term closures, a user permit system, and construction of a trail, trail bridge, and minor improvements to staging areas and trailheads.

The purpose of the Bobcat Reforestation Project is to restore and enhance the forest ecosystem in areas impacted by the 2020 Bobcat Fire. This project aims to re-establish forest strucgture, improve forest health, and support biodiversity.

The Mt Baldy Safety Evacuation Corridor Project is a linear fuel break, 50 feet on each side of the road. The purpose is to enhance community protection and reduce the risk of loss of human life, structures, and natural resources from wildland fires.

Sheep Fire Restoration 2021 that burned 863 acres on Joshua Tree Wodland and Pinon Pine stands near the town of Wrightwood, CA. We are proposing restoration projects, fuel reduction, tree and shrub planting, firewood sales, and a road closure.

The Angeles National Forest (ANF) proposes to re-establish and maintain legacy fuelbreaks located on ridgelines. These fuelbreaks are historically-used as strategic firelines to support protection of Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) and watershed value

LA County Department of Public Works proposes to remove up 4.4 mm cubic yards (mcy) of sediment from Big Tujunga Reservoir and place it in the adjacent Maple Canyon, a designated sediment disposal site in the forest plan.

The Forest Service proposes to issue a special use permit to So. Cal Edison Co. (SCE) for construction, operation, and maintenance of a solar power plant at the Burnt Peak Communications Site. The project footprint is less than half an acre.

Proposal to reissue or amend Boquet Canyon Tract recreational residence Special Use Permits. New permits or amendments would provide protection measures for the unarmored threespine stickleback, an endagered fish, and to the adjacent riparian area.

The Angeles National Forest proposes to improve 1000' of stream habitat in San Francisquito Creek across from Powerhouse 2. We propose to remove concrete structures, enhance riparian habitat, and use native materials to stabilize road embankment.

The purpose and need are to restore Aquatic Organism Passage along the San Francisquito Canyon Creek and improve aquatic habitat for aquatic organisms (T&E species). ANF proposed to replace existing road culverts at road crossings.

LADWP is seeking a permit to replace 6 miles of damaged conductors, repair wires on the Adelanto-Toluca transmission line in a post-fire environment. They are redefining the spatial needs and requirements for the repair of line. (July 2021)

So. CA Edison proposes to install a < 1 acre solar power generation facility on top of Pyramid Dam. This facility will provide power to operate the dam. An older underground line failed in 2018 and was not feasible to replace.

Mt. High Resort is proposing to construct a new mountain bike trail network within their permitted boundary consisting of 14 downhill trails (3 beginner, 5 intermediate, 1 advanced intermediate, and 5 advanced) measuring approximately 13 miles.

The John D Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act established the St Francis Dam Disaster National Memorial and National Monument, with the need to develop a management plan to enhance the benefit and enjoyment by the public.

ANF is proposing to reduce fire risk, and create a safe transportation route along the Angeles Crest highway. Design features will be included to minimize and avoid effects to resources.

Construction of Heroes Project at former site of Icehouse Canyon Lodge/Resort. Heroes Project will offer mountaineering opportunities to veterans. Open to public.

The USDA Forest Service proposes to convey approximately 9 acres of land within the San Dimas administrative site under the authority of the Forest Service Facility Realignment and Enhancement Act of 2005.

Heroes Project proposes constructing 5 buildings: store/shop, storage building, and cabins for office space, and lodging. Existing water tank, pipelines, and spring box will be upgraded. The site was a lodge and resort until burned in late 1980's.

The goal is to provide lasting ecological benefits to the lands degraded by the Copper Fire. The actions are non-native plant removal, snag and mortality removal, heavily GSOB infested tree removal, pruning, density thinning, and tree planting.

The Project was developed to better manage the recreation use and balance the needs for resource protection. The project site encompasses an approximate 2.5-mile reach of the East Fork of the San Gabriel River

Design and construction of a new fire station, a new barracks and supporting appurtenances, The construction package is prepared by the U.S Army Corps of Engineers. (incl. hazmat remediation, decommissioning and demolition of the existing facilities)

Permit seeker proposes to construct a new 120 feet communication tower to upgrade and replace an existing tower and add cement pads to accommodate the future pre-fabricated equipment buildings and additional tenants utilizing the site.

The ANF proposes permanent closure of an abandoned mine shaft. The shaft collar is unstable, and the surface walls are steep and sheer. This vertical hazard will be mitigated by utilizing polyurethane foam to fill the shaft. Revegetate naturally

Adams Pack Station, located at Chantry Flat, is seeking a 10 year outfitter and guide permit due to new ownership. All activities and facilities will remain the same as previous operator.

The proposed project would replace and realign significant portions of an aging 2-inch diameter galvanized steel water main with a 6-inch diameter high-density polyethelyne (HDPE) pipe. The Forest proposes to issue a special use permit to SHIA.

Reroute the Strawberry Peak Trail above the Colby Bridge Trailhead to include construction of approximately five hundred and fifty meters of new trail and dropping approximately twenty dead hazard trees.

The first Project aims to use various forestry techniques to remove excessive fuel loads and improve forest health primarily on the ridgetops of the Sawmill and Liebre Mountains. The second project plans to reforest conifer and oak forestland.

A total of 10 sites will require clearance by either grading the surface under the conductor or increasing the height of existing towers to be in compliance with (CPUC) General Order 95 clearance code requirements.

Construct, use, and maintain a double circuit 230-kV transmission line, reconductor an existing 230-kV transmission line, and add a new 230-kV circuit to existing transmission tower structures. Alternative 1 is located in Salt Creek IRA.

The project consists of site designation and construction/operation of a new multi-carrier cellular tower and building. Plans include a 70 foot lattice tower, a 49'4" by 17'4" equipment building, back-up generator and propane tank.

The proposed project is to cut down and remove dead and dying hazard trees along approximately 12.2 miles of Santa Clara Divide Road, 3N17, and several connector roads. The trees will be removed to avoid buildup of hazardous fuels for a fire.

The Forest Service proposes to issue the Special Use Permit to LA-RICS Authority to construct and operate 13 new towers on existing communication sites with specific terms and conditions. This project tiers to the FEMA programmatic EA and DN/FONSI.

The purpose of the OPGW lines is to provide both grounding and communications functions. OPGW lines function as traditional shield/earth wires that protect the transmission line from lightning and include optical fibers that would be used for telecom

Proposes to thin, release, treat hazardous fuels and plant 182 acres of mixed conifer stands within and adjacent to the Lightning Point Campground.

The Angeles National Forest (ANF) is proposing to develop a management plan for the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument as required by Presidential Proclamation. This plan will be adopted as an amendment to the existing ANF Land Management Plan

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service proposes to approve the reestablishment of the federally endangered mountain yellow-legged frog, in accordance with the Endangered Species Act of 1973. Figure attached displays the potential locations.

Permit seeker requested NFS SUP authorization for the continued occupancy and use of the existing well and associated domestic water infrastructure for rebuilding home following a catastrophic wildfire, pending appropriate LA county building permit.

The ANF proposes proactive treatment to reduce tree mortality of high-value oaks from the invasive GSOB by spraying the boles and larger branches with Carbaryl to slow dominant canopy tree mortality. Recreation sites will be closed during treatment.

Approve continued operation, maintenance and use of existing distribution and transmission powerlines and infrastructure for Southern California Edison located within designated corridors on the Angeles National Forest.

After the Sand Fire, ~ 572 acres of native forest needs to be planted because the land is not predicted to recover to a forested condition without intervention. The purpose is to rapidly establish forest cover in fire affected native forest stands.

The Forest Service is proposing to reissue a 5 year permit for Big Oaks Lodge. The new permit is for operating and maintaining a resort, including food service, retail sales, and other ancillary facilities.

The Angeles National Forest is proposing to improve vegetation and wildlife habitat conditions in disturbed locations across the forest by collecting native seed and cuttings by hand for restoration purposes.

A proposal to remove sediment, fix culverts, stabilize streambank, improve vegetation, develop a backwater preserve, and convert Zuni Campground to an education site. The purpose is to restore riparian habitat and flow capacity to Boquet Creek.

Forest Service is proposing to issue a permit to SCE to upgrade and re-configure facilities along the Dice 33kV sub-transmission circuit as well as the Gambler and Circle 12kV distribution circuits to address liability issues affecting the community.

Expanding Hazard Reduction for landowners with habitable structures within 300 feet of the forest boundary. Project will establish defensible space around structures to the extent necessary to comply with state and county fire codes.

The LA County Department of Public Works, Flood Control Division, requires a permit to operate facilities of their Hydroelectric Power Plant located on San Gabriel Dam. This proposal is to review the permit and the compliance to existing laws.

A proposal to maintain existing "backbone" fuelbreaks located primarily on ridgetops within the Sierra Pelona Mountain Range just north of the City of Santa Clarita, CA. Treatment methods include mechanical, manual (by hand), and prescribed fire.

LA County proposes to remove up to 4.4mm cubic yards of sediment from Big Tujunga Reservoir, and place it in the adjacent Maple Canyon, a designated disposal site. Big Tujunga Reservoir will be dewatered through dam valves and mechanical pumping.

Install new 50' monopole at Inspiration Point. The monopole will support microwave dishes and VHF/UHF antennas.All work completed inside existing permitted facility. This project will improve operational reliability for public safety.e.g.Sheriff/Fire

Palmdale Water District proposes to remove approx. 1.2 million cubic yards of sediment from the reservoir, and haul it to a waste facility near Palmdale. A concrete grade control structure will be built to reduce future sedimentation.

An unreinforced wall of 450' length and 20' high is severely eroded by constant water scouring. The proposal is to reinforce this wall with riprap. A temporary water diversion structure will be placed in the middle of the streambed to divert water.

This project will involve moving frogs or tadpoles from existing populations into Bear Creek. This effort is designed to establish another population within the historic range of the species in order to aid in its recovery.

Issuance of a new special use authorization for existing communications uses on the Angeles National Forest, for a new term to replace an existing or expired special use authorization.

The proposed action includes the eradication, control, containment, and/or suppression of existing and new infestations of invasive plant species, using herbicides and manual treatment methods.

In 2015, the Forest Service confirmed Gold Spotted Oak Borer (GSOB) infested oaks and tree mortality in the Green Valley community and surrounding area. The agency proposes to survey, locate, treat infested trees. Slash will be chipped and spread.

This project will remove non-native aquatic species within the South Fork Big Rock Creek, Dorr Canyon, Little Rock Creek, Devils Canyon, Bear Creek, Vincent and Bear Gulch and will involve the use of nets, traps and backpack electroshockers.

This proposal is to construct six vault toilet buildings [SSTs] within the Frenchman's Flat area.

Mt. Waterman Ski Resort proposes to allow summer Mt. Biking within their permitted area. Approx. 10 miles of single track trail would be constructed and maintained by resort staff and volunteers, adjacent to and within existing ski runs and roads.

Renewal of Sprint Communications Company L.P. Right of Way Permit for 10 years for a buried fiber optic cable that runs through the Soledad Canyon area along the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks. ROW is 6,055' long and and 10' wide, 1.39 ac

CalTrans SH2 - regrade and remove overhanging unstable thick soil mantle. A soldier-pile debris catchment wall is proposed at the toe of the regraded slope. The proposed wall will catch the hazard falling material and prevent blockage of SH2.

The Angeles National Forest proposes to improve public safety and comply with the direction of Forest Service Manual 2840.3 by eliminating human entry into the abandoned historic Dawn Mine. Closure methods will be selected on site-specific conditions

The District is proposing to cut and clear vegetation to provide defensible space and evacuation routes for administrative and recreation sites, recreation cabins, and communication sites, to protect infrastructure from wildfire.

Proposal is to implement Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recommendations on an already approved transmission line. On National Forest System lands, marker balls would be added to 111 wire spans, and aviation lights to 3 towers.

PAALP is proposing to re-route a 14,000 foot segment of Line 63, to meet requirements of the US EPA Consent Decree(2010) for returning crude oil into Line. The pipe will be installed via a combination of convential trenching and horizontal drilling.

Geophysical/ geotechnical investigation to evaluate feasibility of tunneling California High Speed Rail alignment through the Angeles National Forest

Manual removal of aquatic invasive fauna from San Francisquito Creek within the Copper Fire area. Target species are goldfish, koi, mosquitofish, crayfish, and green sunfish. Techniques include seining, trapping, electroshocking, and spearfishing.

The Angeles, Cleveland, Los Padres, and San Bernardino national forests propose to amend their land management plans with new guidance for roadless area management and land management plan monitoring.

LA County DPW propose to address structural issues and update infrastructure. Elements include: Cutting a notch in the dam wall;Upgrade outdated electrical, mechanical,lighting and control systems;Repair flaking concrete; see 23. below

The proposal will remove aquatic non-native species within Devils Canyon. The project will involve the use of nets and backpack electroshokers to remove non-native species that prey on the federally endangered mountain yellow-legged frog.

A proposal to issue So. CA Edison a short term special use permit for removal and restoration of 2 miles of idle electrical transmission line, and 1.3 miles of access road. Towers will be removed by helicopter with no ground disturbance.

This project intends to focus on restoration of the Black Oak stand through management of the mistletoe infestation using several eradication techniques and by promoting understory regeneration through planting.

The project consists of pruning lower branches, removing competing brush, opening canopy cover, clearing a perimeter fuelbreak, and replanting trees at six forestry plantations.

Eradication, control, containment, and/or suppression of existing and new infestations of invasive plant species in the Santa Clara River Watershed by the use of herbicides, manual, mechanical, biological, and fire wilting methods.

A section of the trail goes straight downhill and suffers from erosion. The proposal is to reroute this small section of the Strawberry Peak Trail along an existing abandoned roadbed and constructing a switchback to the trail at gradual grade.

The proposal is to construct a new 109' tall 4-legged self supporting lattice tower adjacent to their buildings. The new tower will be utilized by the City and its public safety partners. A detailed site plan is attached.

LA County Dept. of Public Works proposes to rebuild a crew barracks building that was damaged in the Station Fire. The new building will occupy the same footprint as the damaged one, and is within the permit area of the existing facility.

LA County proposes to expand the relief drain which carries debris from Mullally Canyon to Pickens Canyon. An existing headwall and inlet will be removed and rebuilt, and approximately 15' of trench will be placed wtihin an existing gravel road.

LA County proposes to install a 20'x19' concrete pad, a 12' diameter by 7' high water tank, and 120' of copper pipe in a 2'x3' trench, to carry water to the crew room. This project area is currently permitted for occupancy by search/rescue personnel

The proposal is to build a new, 100ft tall, self supporting lattice tower adjacent to the building. A previously approved 800sq ft expansion to the existing building will occur (as recorded in the Communications Site Managemen Plan dated 11/20/08).

The Forest Service was a cooperating agency, assisting the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in that Agency's geothermal leasing analysis and decision. The BLM issued a record of decision on 12/17/2008.
