This conveyance authority was created to improve Forest Service operations and provide benefits to the public. The work center site became excess several years ago due to district consolidations.

Seven of the eight project area stands originate from Southern Pine Beetle (SPB) salvage harvests from the late 1980s and early 1990s, which subsequently were planted or naturally regenerated to loblolly pine from 1987 to 1991.

The prescribed burning would enhance forest health, improve wildlife habitat diversity and reduce hazardous fuels accumulations.
