Kaibab National Forest — Project Detail

The Town of Tusayan and Coconino County Flood Control District propose to conduct geotechnical investigations of underlying geology and soil conditions of proposed sites for a flood retarding structure and ponding area within National Forest System Lands of the Tusayan Ranger District.

The purpose is to connect high-speed and high-capacity internet service to a FS facility to support working with modern software and applications that require higher capacity data transmission. The FS is waiting for additional info from the proponent

The purpose of this project is to bring fiber optic connectivity to the Tusayan Communication Site and the Tusayan Ranger Station. This will provide reliable internet access to the FS offices. The FS is waiting for additional info from the proponent.

Due to injury and fatality, the permittee for the Corva Allotment is requesting to install approximately 0.33 mile of fence and a gate along FR 744 to prevent cattle from attempting to cross a cattle-guard.

The purpose of this project is to install approximately half a mile of fence along East Garland Prairie Road for pasture management within the Garland Prairie Allotment.

Coconino County proposes to continue with pavement preservation and shoulder widening work on the Old Route 66 near Parks, AZ in areas that are starting to deteriorate and require rehabilitation. Proposed work is within the existing right of way.

Pavement re-surfacing and shoulder widening of the FSR 141 / Spring Valley Road from the Route 66 to Lillie J. Ranch Rd within the existing right-of-way for Coconino County. UPDATE: This project will extend to Rustic Cabin Trail.

The Forest Service proposes to authorize Prescott College to conduct academic field courses year-round across forests in Arizona including adventure education, biology, human ecology, natural history, physical geography, & field ecology.

This project would decommission a section of the Arizona Trail that goes through a drainage and adopt the user-created trail that is currently being used.

Decommission the parking area and toilet building at the existing Oak Hill Snow Play Area. This area will return to general forest.

Construction of three highway overpasses to allow wildlife passage. Two overpasses will be on Interstate 17 and One will be on Interstate 40 in northern Arizona.

To bring fiber optic connectivity to the Anita Communication Site to provide reliable internet service.

UPDATE: Proponent has indicated they are not moving forward with this project at this time.

University of Arizona is requesting to do seismology fieldwork to model the distribution of magma beneath the San Francisco Volcanic Field in northern Arizona.

Exchange up to approx. 0.94 ac of private land for up to approx. 0.94 ac of adjacent FS land to allow construction of drainage features to mitigate flood risk posed by Railroad Tank Dam. Flood risk mitigation analyzed in separate 2017 NEPA.

The Town of Tusayan has proposed construction of approx. 12.5 mi of new foot and bike trails and trailhead facilities to augment and link existing trails in the Tusayan area, providing safe and sustainable trail routes for visitors and residents.

A new pole is required to split service off an existing and authorized APS line to serve the private landowner that borders the Kaibab National Forest.

Construct a new wildlife water in the northwest portion of the HRWA, and rebuild/re-establish, construct and install approximately 12 miles of existing and new pasture fence-line (including associated cattle-guards) within the HRWA.

Authorize installation of an underground fiber optic line between Ash Fork and Flagstaff, AZ. The line would be within existing forest roads and the Transwestern Pipeline corridors including approximately 32.3 miles on Forest Service land.

APS is requesting to install a monopole tower within an established substation to provide greater range and reliability for emergency and standard communications to the Parks community.

Issue a special use permit to BFT Flagstaff LLC to construct a driveway to provide access to private property across National Forest System lands. The driveway would be approximately 75 feet in length and 20 feet wide.

APS is requesting to dig a 12-foot trench along Old Route 66 to place a new utility run that will connect to the new DW Tower, LLC communication site on private land. Currently, the site is not connected to electrical services.

AT&T needs a clear microwave path to connect from the existing American Tower to their facility on Elden Mountain. They are requesting to thin trees taller than 40 feet east of American Tower to clear a 40-foot wide path between the two points.

A property owner is applying for legal access across National Forest System lands to their private property.

Rescind the 1986 easement that was granted to the private parcel during a land exchange and did not legally transfer to the subsequent property holders. Issue a road use permit for the purpose of providing access to private land from Forest Road 108.

Cathodic protection stations are needed in three locations along the El Paso Natural Gas Line outside of the existing Right-of-Way. Installation involves drilling a 10-inch bore 500-600 feet into the ground to place anodes and metallic rods.

Widen the west side of Hwy 64 by approximately 12 feet north and south of the entrance to Ten-X Campground to add an acceleration lane to the south and turning lane to the north. Total project length would be approximately 3,600 ft in length.

Decision memo to allow for commercial harvest of pine nuts on the North Kaibab Ranger District.

The parking lot for the Keyhole Sink Trail is located at Oak Hill, which is closed for logging activities. This project proposes to re-route the trail to a new parking area and install a standard toilet building.

Expand and better delineate the parking area at the Grandview Trailhead, which provides access to the Arizona Trail and areas around the Grandview Lookout Tower. The new parking lot would contain approximately 8 parking spaces.

Application of Delta Dust insecticide on Gunnison's Prairie Dog Burrows and placement of flea and tick-specific edible insecticide pellets on the South Zone of the Kaibab National Forest to reduce the occurrence of the plague.

Construct thirteen (13) new cabins within existing trailer spaces. Cabins will be prefabricated, except for foootings. Each will be a 1-bedroom w/ 1 sleeping-loft. Cabins may be utilized for employee housing or as resort guest units.

Targeted removal of hazard trees along approximately 2 miles of highway ROW, 17 miles of FS Roads, 10 miles of trails, 55 miles of range allotment & pasture/boundary fence-lines, and around developed water features on approximately 3,000 acres.

Remove non-native and invasive aquatic species (e.g. green sunfish, crayfish, waterdogs) and focusing on exotic American bullfrogs (Rana catesbeiana) to conserve populations of northern leopard frog (Rana pipiens) and other native aquatic species.

Removal of non-functioning metal pipes and downed barbed wires and then re-fence the source to maintain the integrity of the spring and vegetation.

Installation of a fire detection tower with automated camera. The tower will be approximately 46 feet tall with a 4 foot by 4 foot concrete base buried at a depth of 6 feet.

The Williams Ranger District is planning on modifying an existing grazing permit from sheep use to cattle use. This amendment applies to the Twin Tanks Allotment and is needed to prevent herd mortality due to a toxic plant on the allotment.

To support sustainable rec mgmt, decommission several non-motorized trails that are inconsistent with climate conditions (ski trails), do not align with current recreation management (mountain bike trails overlaid on roads), or receive little use.

Construct new work center (approx. 5,000 sq. ft.) and associated parking, vehicle turn-around area, and septic system adjacent to the existing facilities at Pittman Valley Work Center. Existing office/pilot ready room would be demolished.

Authorize installation of approximately 9 miles of above-ground fiber optic line on FS land within an existing APS right-of-way needed to provide emergency communications for the Babbitt Ranch Energy Center. Bureau of Reclamation is leading the NEPA.

Amend special use permits for two current North Kaibab Outfitter & Guides to allow operations on the Tusayan Ranger District. Permit holders are currently in good standing and follow leave no trace land ethics.

The purpose of this project is to replace an existing building and install new equipment at the Ash Fork Well #1 site. The well will be used year-round as needed for potable water supply to the community of Ash Fork.

T-Mobile is a cellular phone service provider providing phone and 911 services. They need to upgrade their power systems to handle a potential prolonged power outage at the existing Grandview Communications Site by installing a new generator.

Amend existing special use permit WMS706, held by El Paso Natural Gas, for 2 new cathodic protection systems along the natural gas pipeline to ensure integrity of the pipeline. Would involve installation of new infrastructure w/in right of way.

Authorize activities including widening, drainage improvements, resurfacing, and future maintenance/snow removal on existing forest roads 102C & 9194W to bring the roads to County zoning ordinance standards.

Build approximately two-point-eight (2.8) miles of new single-track trail to replace a narrow canyon section of trail that was burned over in the Mangum Fire (2020) and washed away.

The Proposed Action (PA) is to install upgraded equipment at the existing Crown Castle tower at the Cooper Ridge communications site. Removal of existing generator and propane tank, and replacement with new generator and propane tank.

Remove, replace and/or upgrade existing communications equipment at two NKRD Radio Communications Sites. Install a new 60-foot self-supporting tower & ancillary equipment.

Work to prepare Grandview Lookout Cabin for use as a cabin rental. Activities include roof and paint hazmat abatement, solar panel installation, a new gravel path to the existing vault toilet, greywater system installation, and other upgrades.

Authorize road maintenance activities including adding surface fill to existing road prism, surface blading, brushing, and snow removal. Permit holder would be permitted to install properly sized corrugated metal pipes within current roadway prism.

Move approximately 1 mile of right-of-way fence on both sides of Highway 89 away from the highway by approximately 0.1 mile to facilitate pronghorn crossing. New fence would be constructed with wildlife-friendly specifications.

Authorize Tusayan Sanitary District (TSD) to construct a water filling station, underground pipeline, & vehicle turn-around adjacent to TSD property to create a sustainable reclaimed water supply and reduce dependency on groundwater pumping.

A new natural gas connection to the Williams RD office will be established via buried pipeline from Old Rte 66 to the office building, replacing the existing gas connection, which follows the trail between the office complex and the City of Williams.

Amend Special Use Authorization KA194 Amendment #2, issued to Salt River Project (SRP), to allow for relocation of flow monitoring devices 150 yards upstream of their existing location because of damage caused by the Rafael Fire in 2021.

Authorize T-Mobile to replace an existing generator with a larger generator and larger concrete pad at the Bill Williams Mountain communications site. All work would be within the footprint of the existing communication site facilities.

Install a new water pipeline between the Town of Tusayan and the Tusayan Ranger District compound to provide a reliable water source to the ranger station and associated administrative facilities/housing.

Amend U.S. Geological Survey's existing special use permit to allow for installation of additional equipment to monitor surface runoff upslope and downslope of the Pinyon Plain Mine.

This project would replace 13 recreation site toilets across the Kaibab that are old pit type toilets or vaults that have become unusable and have been closed to the public.

Re-issue a special use permit to Manterola Ranches for access to private property across National Forest System lands. Access would be via forest roads 166 (closed to public use) and 24 (open to public use) and a short driveway off of FR 24.

Drake Cement is proposing to mine natural pozzolan (a concrete additive) on mining claims it holds on the Williams Ranger District. The proposed mine is situated in and around Frenchy Pit, a location of previous mining and quarrying.

Authorize SBA Tower to construct an additional buried powerline at the Grandview communications site. The new line would be approximately 160 feet long. Additional power is needed to support emergency communications equipment at the existing site.

The Kaibab NF in partnership with the Arizona Trail Association (ATA) proposes to build approximately one (1) mile of new single-track trail to replace a section of trail that currently overlays Forest Road 258B on the North Kaibab Ranger District.

New replacement tower/equipment to improved reliability of wireless communications: New 199ft. tall self-supporting tower, New 16ft. x 24ft. building, new 50 kW back-up generator w/1,000-gallon propane tank on concrete pads, and new fencing.

Amend existing special use permit WMS706, held by El Paso Natural Gas, to incorporate existing infrastructure not previously recorded in the original authorization. No new construction would occur.

Issue new 30-yr road use permit to the private landowner for long term use of existing, but closed, Forest Road 141F. General road maintenance activities including snow removal will be allowable under the permit. No major construction is planned.

Issue a new special use permit for a driveway needed to access a parcel of private property for a primary residence. Construction of a new driveway approximately 100 ft in length and 10 ft wide would occur.

The project will install 8.5 miles ( /-) of new waterline from Warm Springs tank to Mangum Springs (Phase 1~6 .8 miles), to Big Springs (Phase 2~1.7 miles), to improve the Jacob Lake public water system and associated communications and control line.

A forest-wide capacity analysis and needs assessment to identify potential new uses and new outfitter and guide operators and considering specific actions to more effectively manage uses in areas that experience high use.

Targeted removal of hazard trees along approximately 2.5 miles of highway right-of-way, 40 miles of Forest Service (FS) roads, 10 miles of trails, and 55 miles of fence lines in the Mangum Fire burn area on the NKRD.

Authorize installation of an underground fiber optic line between Paulden and Ashfork, Arizona. Approximately 9.58 miles would be on the Williams Ranger District and would be within the Highway 89 right-of-way.

To provide reliable and efficient water delivery to the City of Williams. An alternate dual water line alignment, totaling approx. 0.8 mi, with access road improvement, is being considered to replace approx. 1 mi of the alignment approved in 2020.

Issue a special use permit for an existing driveway that accesses multiple private parcels with primary residences.

Sherwood Forest Fire District is upgrading and expanding their facilities to provide efficient emergency response & increase capacity to meet future demands. Existing SUP would be amended to allow new construction in their existing authorized area.

This project will remove/mitigate hazard trees along 40 miles of FS Roads and 50 miles of fence-lines, within 3,000 acres of moderate-to-severe burned area of the Mangum Fire.

A revised proposal from Commnet to install fiber optic cable to provide high-speed internet to Grand Canyon Unified School District. The cable would be located on existing utility poles or be buried along existing roadways.

Install additional infrastructure at the existing Saginaw-Manistee and Jacob Lake communication sites to support the FirstNet nationwide wireless broadband network for first responders.

Construct or place two new 180 foot tall communication towers on the North Kaibab Ranger District to provide reliable wireless telephone/emergency service for the Highway 67 corridor from Jacob lake to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park.

The purpose of this project is to determine if the KNF should authorize livestock grazing for the Partridge Creek Allotment.

The Forest Service is proposing vegetation thinning within a 518,000-acre project area on the NKRD by using prescribed fire and small-dia. tree thinning resulting in 319,000 acres of fuels treatments, and forest vegetation and watershed improvements.

CenturyLink is proposing to install new fiber optic line on existing utility poles, owned by APS, which are located on the Williams Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest (KNF).

To provide reliable and efficient water delivery to the City of Williams. Currently, the City of Williams transfers approximately 80% of the City's water supply in one existing waterline; both raw water and potable water.

USGS is requesting an amendment to their existing special use permit to include installation of equipment to monitor surface flow (runoff) downslope of the Canyon Mine. Up to 5 water-detection instruments and 1 game camera will be deployed.

This project proposes to designate an interpretive trail along a 3.67 mile stretch of historic railroad grade on the Williams Ranger District which was used for logging in the late 1800s.

Current Outfitter and Guides which hold special-use permits on the Kaibab National Forest must apply for a new permit on an annual basis. Switching from an annual permit to a longer-term (10-Year) permit reduces paperwork and administrative costs.

Proposal is to install a new interpretive sign across from an existing interpretive sign on Forest Service Road 301. The sign will provide educational information on an the historic Moqui Stage Stop, near the AZ National Scenic Trail.

Evaluate the efficacy of verbenone to deter attraction of I. pini to its aggregation pheromone, examine if adding verbenone to nonhost volatiles and acetophenone increase verbenone%u2019s effect, test verbenone for deterring I. pini attacks on slash.

Issuance of a winter resort permit for Elk Ridge Ski Area to the new owners, Elk Ridge Recreation I, LLC using the current Master Development Plan.

This project would remove a portion of the Arizona National Scenic Trail from Forest Service Road 301 and construct 1000 feet of trail off the Forest Service Road system.

A proposal from CommNet for fiber optic cable to provide high-speed internet to the Grand Canyon USD buildings crossing the Williams and Tusayan Ranger Districts, the cable will go on existing utility poles, or be buried along existing roadways

The NKRD low-capacity waters redevelopment project would replace 12 of the older style concrete wildlife drinkers and upgrade them with the newer higher capacity waters catchments and updated drinker systems.

The Williams Ranger District is looking to Demolish two lookout towers; Red Hill and Round Mountain. These towers have been targeted for removal due to the buildings being unsafe for use.

The KNF proposes a meadow restoration project northwest of McDougal Springs near the intersection of Forest Service Road (FSR) 110 and FSR 705.

To remove and properly dispose of non-compliant wastewater systems including pit toilets and/or vaults. This includes removal of lead based paint, backfill/compaction and rough grading of the area.

A proposal from DW Tower for a for a new lower power cellular and microwave communications site to be located at Deer Wash and Highway 64 located on the Tusayan Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest.

Plan management activities to optimize wildlife habitat in HRWA, particularly for pronghorn, deer and bison. Actions may include thinning trees and shrubs to increase forage, and fence or use water to manage distribution of animals.

Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) proposes to construct a 150 ft. x 200 ft. (approx. 0.7 acre) stormwater detention basin onsite, to mitigate and control discharge flows from the ADOT Jacob Lake Maintenance Yard, a 7 acre SUP Permit Site.

Repair/replace four (4) existing trick tanks / water development sites located on the NKRD; project activities will take place within previously disturbed footprints of the 4 sites: Rice Hollow, Pine Hollow, Kwagunt Hollow, and Ranger Pass tanks.

AZG&FD SUP Amendment No. 2; House Rock 2013 Fenceline Construction CE

The Kaibab National Forest, North Kaibab Ranger District proposes to improve timber stands on approximately 67 acres of National Forest Land, through prescribed fire and understory thinning.

Garkane Energy Special Use Permit Renewal for NKRD powerline distribution and Ryan substation, and ancillary lines and equipment associated with operations and maintenance of the distribution on and across the Kaibab Plateau (Approximately 52 miles).

Arizona Game and Fish Department is requesting authorization to perform bison habitat improvements in the House Rock Wildlife Area, including temporary water developments, new fencing, reconstruction of corrals, and development of a capture site.

Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZG&FD) will make a large holding pasture (3600 acres) by rebuilding approximately 2.6 miles of old fence line that runs north-south and extending an existing east-west fence 0.3 miles.

Forest Service project to re-evaluate and re-align the Allotment Management Plan for Kane Ranch operations on the Kaibab National Forest to address changes in vegetative conditions and provide adaptive, flexible grazing rotations for 10 to 20 years.

Decommission two (2) self-contained vault toilets located at the Le Fevre Scenic Overlook within the North Kaibab Ranger District. Upon removal, the depression left by the vault toilet sites would properly be backfilled, reclaimed and revegetated.

The NKRD proposes to remove small-diameter trees (less than 6-inches in diameter) that are encroaching on meadows N & S of FS Roads 212 & 811, E of FS Roads 261, 261, & 217, W of FS Road 265, near Mile&1/2 and Three Lakes. Tools = Chainsaw & Hand.

The Proposed Action is to construct and/or improve up to ten (10) total water development sites located along the east-southeast boundary of the North Kaibab Ranger District (NKRD). Four (4) are redevelopments, and six (6) are new developments.

Re-surface two (2) maintenance level 3 gravel roads (approximately 16 miles) and re-open a 4.1 acre gravel-pit borrow area on the North Kaibab Ranger District (NKRD).

Identify and establish a motorized road system on the North Kaibab Ranger District and publish a motorized vehicle use map

Prepair a Decision Memo for the re-issuance of 15 temporary (Special Use Permits) SUPs as priority SUPs for continued operations on the North Kaibab. The SUPs cover a range of various activities, mtn.biking, hunting, camping, canyoneering, etc.

Fuels reduction project at multiple sites on the North Kaibab Plateau

The NKRD proposes to extend the existing Rainbow Rim trail east 8 miles. The first 4.5 miles will be new extension, and the remaining 3.5 mile will follow an existing decommisioned roadbed. The minimum tread wide of the new path will be 18-inches.

Authorization to amend the existing Communication site permit; to place approximately 6,150 feet of buried fiber-optic cable alongside an existing buried copper cable to provide continued service to a customer cell tower at the Jacob Lake Comm site.

Ultra Challenge America seeks authorization through a Special Use Permit (SUP) to conduct a multi-day, competitive 170 mile foot-race called the Grand-to-Grand Ultra race, which crosses the NE section of the NKRD (in Coconino County, AZ.)

The KNF-NKRD proposes to improve timber stands on approximately 9,123 acres of National Forest Land, through prescribed fire and understory thinning. The Tipover Timber Stand Improvement (TSI) Project is located along the Forest/Park Boundary.

Minerals exploration for Pozzolan in the Drake Cement LLC Williams Quarry.

A proposal for a new access road to separate uses of the Coconino County Sheriffs and the Public Works use of the Coconino County Maintenance Yard, for safety reasons.

The Town of Tusayan has applied for transportation and utility easements on National Forest lands to improve segments of existing forest roads and construct new segments to provide all weather access and utility service to two private inholdings.

The Kaibab National Forest is seeking to transition outfitter and guides from temporary use permits to term permits. These permits would be issued to companies with history of use on the Forest. Eliminating the need for reissuing permits annually.

The Ten X Campground Expansion project is designed to increase overnight camping opportunities for visitors to the area and improve overall experience by upgrading aging facilities and adding amenities.

FS must decide whether to allow APS to include using herbicides as a method to manage vegetation on existing APS transmission ROW within five National Forests in Arizona.

The Williams and Tusayan Ranger Districts would like to provide the public the opportunity to collect fuelwood in the form of green wood from the proposed areas. This would be an addition to the current fuelwood program.

Incorporate new management direction and range improvement infrastructure in the Anita and Cameron allotments

Perform maintenance on the Railroad Tank Dam, including repairing the spillway, maintaining the crest of the structure, and creating a structure to allow low level flows to pass through the dam.

The Clover Pond Wildlife Viewing Area would provide important refugia habitat which supports life cycle needs of the northern leopard frog, a species in which population viability is a concern.

This project proposes wetland habitat improvement activities to improve the structure and function of wetlands on the Williams Ranger District.

A proposal (Proposed Action) submitted by DW Tower LLC (Proponent), to establish wireless and microwave communications towers at the Grandview and Skinner Ridge communications sites on the Kaibab National Forest (KNF).

The Raspberry Timber Stand and Wildlife Habitat Improvement Project would improve forest conditions while enhancing upland bird habitat. The 6109, acre project is located in the southeast part of the NKRD upon the Kaibab Plateau.

Construction of a new trail (150 to 200' in length) to access a display kiosk for the historic Tusayan Lookout Tree.

Restore grasslands, savannas, and historically open pinyon-juniper woodlands to ecological conditions that existed prior to Euro-American settlement.

Extend pipeline from Power Line Storage Tank (#001920) in Miller Pasture to Fix Tank located in the NW corner of the pasture. New pipeline would be about 1.5 miles long length, constructed of 1.5" diam. HDPE poly-pipe buried 30" deep.

The Williams and Tusayan Ranger Districts are proposing to provide increased opportunities for dispersed motorized camping and Forest access.

The Kaibab National Forest has 12 mineral material contracts for 20 flagstone quarries on the Williams Ranger District. Hammond Wholesale Flagstone inc. holds a two-year contract for the Perez Quarry, and proposes expansion within the 5 acre site.

Fues Pit is a mineral material pit under contract with Coconino County Public Works Department for use of mineral materials on county roads. the new piece of road will be .75 miles long and 22 feet wide.

Installation of a fiber optic line within the existing Tranwestern ROW. ROW width of 8 feet. Lenght will equal 51,135 feet. Total of 9.391 acres

The purpose of the project is to improve the health and sustainability of forested conditions on and surrounding Bill Williams Mountain by reducing hazardous fuels and moving vegetative conditions in the project area toward desired conditions.

The Tusayan Ranger District is proposing to improve wildlife habitat and forest conditions within the Randall Restoration Project area by cutting and removing ponderosa pine, pinyon pine, and juniper trees and implementing prescribed fire.

Construct approximately one mile of fence north of the town of Parks, AZ along County Road 141 to improve public safety and range conditions.

Repair and restore log drop structures in North Canyon Creek to help rehabilitate and maintain stream pools. This should help provide the Apache trout over winter habitat as well as in times of stream dewatering from limited precipitation.

The Williams Ranger District is proposing to improve wildlife habitat and reduce tree encroachment within the McDougal Flat grassland area by cutting the majority of the trees and conducting follow-up prescribed burning where appropriate.

Three Mile Lake would be fenced to protect rare/sensitive plant/animal species. The exclosure fence around Horse Lake would be realigned to so the earthen tank is outside the fence.

The Tusayan Ranger District proposes to construct 2.6 miles of new fence within the Tusayan and Upper Anita Pastures in order to improve public safety by preventing cattle from entering the Grand Canyon Airport and the Highway 64 corridor

VANE Minerals proposes to drill exploration holes for uranium at a total of 7 sites within the Tusayan Ranger District. All drilling will be strictly limited to exploration holes, and no actual mining of ore will occur.

The Kaibab National Forest’s Williams Ranger District is considering a proposal to allow Northern Arizona University School of Earth Sciences and Environmental Sustainability a Special Use Permit for two earthquake monitoring sites.

Construct a communications facility as part of a wireless communication system to serve the Grand Canyon area. Includes: 125 foot tall tower; Prebuilt equipment building; Solar hybrid power system; 100 x 100 ft compound with a 6 ft fence.

Project would involve tree thinning and prescribed burning on up to 3,000 acres to create a fuelwood supply in the Upper Basin. Project would help alleviate resource damage associated with illegal fuelwood cutting in the area.

Commercial thinning or harvesting on approximately 69 acres of Ponderosa pine (forested area) that contains overstocked stands, to achieve the desired stocking level to increase forest health and vigor. Requires less than 1/2 mile of temporary roads.

Expand Moonset Cinder Pit to provide additional cinders for use on area roads. Modify road access to allow for safer disposal of community slash.
